Winter Fun in Hawaii

Lori and I like to take a week around our aniversary (29 years on Feb 28) and go somewhere warm. This year we went to Hawaii and took what kids could go with us. Trevor and Melissa spent 4 days with us and Brett and Joey spent the whole time. We were able to spend 11 days this year, It took Lori 4 days to unwind. The first 4 days was spent on Oahu on the north side of the Island. The trade winds were stong and constantly blowing but were able to spend some quailty time out doors. 2 of the days we hung out and the other two days we did some golf and the Polynesian Cultural Center (same day) and at Pearl Harbor. Pearl Harbor was travel Day so Lori and I and the two youger boys left for Maui and Trevor and Melissa did some shopping and eating while waiting for their charriot home. I was able to get some good pictures and here is a few of the many. We did hike up to Waimea Falls and was able to swim in the pool, did a bunch of wave watching and reading and just about taking it easy with a little golf thrown in for me....

The Music for these Videos is by the Great Hawaiian Singer, IZ, Israel kamakawiwo'ole A singer with a wonderful voice and a great message that I found after he had left this world way too soon. I pay tribute to him and his beautiful Hawaii, the Islands of Oahu and Maui

OK so here is the deal, I have been very lazy about keeping my blog up to date. So much has happened since my last blog. We found out that Jared and Heather are having a girl, so much for my boys only blog. Lori and I are looking forward to having girl in the family. I guess she will be spoiled beyond belief, I don't know what to do with little girls so I guess this old dog is going to have learn new things, after all I did turn 50 on my last birthday.

So here is what happened over the Holidays.

Jared and Heather flew into town, Heather came first and then Jared followed about a week later and stayed about 10 days. Heather visits with her family while Jared stays in Philly and when he comes into town they all gather at our house, so we had a wonderful vist with the kids. Tagen was always the cutest, however he is two and his personality is really starting to come out and he is pretty smart. Heather is the greatest mom and has a lot of patience, she gets a lot of practice with Jared. Christmas was great Lori and I went overboard on Taegen but found it was hard not to after all we only have one grandchild right now so we can spoil him to death. I was a lousy grandpa and did not take pictures, shame on me but what I did do is take a picture of Taegen helping me shovel snow. When Jared was Taegen's age I bought him a little snow shovel so he could help me and over the years the other boys helped with this same shovel and for some reason it never found it way into the garbage can and while I was out shoveling little T pitched a fit until his mom dressed him and I found that same shovel and he helped me just like his daddy.

School is going well for Jared, he is about 2/3 of the way through his 3rd year. He is going through rotations this year getting a little experience in different fields. He started the year by doing Internal Medicine, loved it! then it was on to OB/GYN, loved it! so much that for now it is one of his top fields then it was onto Psych, loved it more than he thought he would. After Christmas he started his Surgery rotation and is loving that as well. Jared reports that he had his first experience of stitching up a gentleman who was handcuffed. It seems this fine upstanding man did not want to pay his $1,000.00 bar tab so the bouncer bounced his head off of some hard object. Next he reports just last week he was involved with two back surgery's with one of them being a liver transplant he reports that it was just assume!! Jared just finished his ortho surgery rotation and loved it and is now thinking about ortho surgery. I know what ever field he chooses he will do well in.

Trevor is doing well in school, between work and school he is busy. You know what they say about no rest for the wicked, I guess he is so busy that he is making up for his past wickedness. Trevor works in a long term care facility and lost his first patient just after Christmas. The family honored Trevor by mentioning him in the obituary and thanking him for his service to their father. I always knew Trevor had a kind and caring heart he just worked so hard and proving to others that he was just the opposite. Trevor has always cared for patients with respect and dignity, at times it has made co-workers jealous because of the relationship that he has with his patients. Trevor gets mad at them because they don't treat their patients with respect and dignity that they deserve. By summer Trevor will have finished his schooling and studying for his RN test. I know he will do well!!

Brett and and Joey are rolling along. Brett forgot to look where he was going and backed into a snow plow and took $2,000.00 out of savings for car repairs. At least he was not on the phone, or was he? Brett spent the holidays working at Toys R Us and did a good job for them that they decided to keep him on.

Joey is doing well in school and is enjoying his 6Th grade year, big man on campus and all that.

He was a big help with Taegen durring thier visit even so much so that they became buddies. I know Lil TJ loved hanging with Joey because he did when ever he could! Joey is really gentile with the little kids that they like him alot, they remember him and even his name where they don't remember others name.

My next post will include some photos from a little R & R that some of us are going on at the end of the month. We will miss Jared and Heather but medical school comes first, Trevor and Melissa get a few days with us but the two younger ones get the full 11 days in ........

Aloha for now!

Season Changes

As the season turns from fall to winter the football season for Joey has come to an end, not a happy ending but almost. The season ended with Joeys team tied for 1st and making it to the playoffs. The first playoff game ended with us taking a loss to a team we beat during the season. Over all Joey had a good year he improved all season long which is how it should be. He already looks forward to next year.

Brett finally got himself a job. He works for Toys-R-Us. He is gaining valuable experience. HIs indoor soccer season started up again and he is enjoying his soccer once again.

Trevor has put his brand new LPN license to good use and got himself a job as well. He will be working at a long term care facility, his hours coincide with his school schedule. So he has entered the Adult world where he is assisting in taking care of his new little family. Lori and I are proud to see the growth in Trevor!! Trevor's Wife Melissa celebrated her birthday the other day, it just so happens to fall on the same day and my Dad's was.

Jared and Heather and Taegen are doing well if you zip over to their blog you can see little T in his cowboy outfit that we gave him for his birthday. When was the last time you saw a cowboy for Halloween? The kids will be in town for Christmas again this year,,,,, we are excited and can't wait for them to come back into town. Jared finishes up his OB/GYN rotation today and he has loved his time in this rotation. On top of his busy schedule he will be spending some time with the Dr's he just finished with to aid in some their research and in the end he hopes to get published. ( I copied this picture from Heather's Post)

Today is a black day for me, I left the 40's behind and entered the 50's, It sucks to grow old, my body just does not work like it used to. Lori gave me prunes this morning she should not have done that because she is 50 in a year and a half and my memory will not forget.

Little T turns 2

Grandma and I had a wonderful time visiting the kids in Philadelphia. While we were there the little man celebrated his second birthday. We had a great time! we got to take the kids to watch the Phillies play and win their deivision, go Phillies!! We went to a park in the middle of Philadelphia which made you feel you were in the middle of nowhere, we ate lunch at a resturant that has been around since our founding fathers and Taegen got to feed the ducks and geese. Overall it was a wonderful visit, here are a few pictures of the little man on his birthday and one with Grandma and a couple of other pictures from my summer visit.
